Create 2003 Office Documents With 2007

By default all Microsoft Office 2007 applications use the different files extensions than the earlier versions.
All earlier Office applications used the file extensions as .doc, .xls and .ppt for Word, Excel and PowerPoint respectively, but now Office 2007 applications uses the .docx, xlsx and .pptx file extensions for Word, Excel and PowerPoint respectively.
These all new file extensions are not compatible with all previous versions of Office applications, that is why Office 2002 and Office 2003 applications cannot open and read the .docx, xlsx and .pptx file extensions.

However, you have an option in Office 2007 to save the files with in older files extensions, But if you are frequently using the older versions of the file and also if the files created by you are to be shared on other computers which have earlier versions of Office, you may want to save all your new documents in the older format, but that would create duplicate files.

There is better option in Office 2007 applications to change the default saving file format to the older format and then the new file format in Office 2007 will be changed to .doc, .xls and .ppt for Word, Excel and PowerPoint respectively.

Today we will set the older file format for Word 2007 and other applications will be discussed in the next tips. Follow the given steps to set the default older file format for Word 2007:

First click on Start button, go to Program then click on Microsoft Word 2007 to run the word application.

Now click on File menu in the top left corner then click on Word Options button to change the default word options.











In the left side panel, click on Save option, and now "Customized how documents are saved" option will appear in right side panel.
















Here find the "Save File in this format" option and click on drop down box to select the different format. Now you will find many options here, select the Word 97-2003 Document (*doc) option.


Now click on Ok button to save the settings and all new Word files will be created in the format you set as default.

Create Nameless Files & Folders

This Trick will allow you to create files and folders without any name.

Just follow the following Steps:

1.Select any file or folder.

2.Right click on it, press rename or simply press F2.

3.Press and hold the alt key. While holding the Alt key, type numbers 0160 from the numpad.

Note: Type the numbers 0160 from the numpad, that is, the numbers present on the right side of the keyboard. Don't type the numbers which are present on top of the character keys.

4.Press Enter and the nameless file or folder will be created.

Reason: The file or folder that seems nameless is actually named with a single space.

But what if you want to create another nameless file or folder in the same directory ?

For this you will have to rename the file with 2 spaces. Just follow these steps below:

1.Select file, press F2.

2.Hold alt key and type 0160 from the numpad.

3.Release the alt key. Now without doing anything else, again hold alt key and press 0160.

4.Press enter and you will have second nameless file in the same directory.

5.Repeat step 3 to create as many nameless files or folders in the same directory.

How To Get Windows Special Folders

If you are logged in Windows XP then your login has some special folders according to logged-in user like every logged-in user has own settings in a special folder. Every logged-in user has own desktop folder. Every logged-in user has own "My document" folder.

I am going to explain method to get those special folders. Type the following commands in "Run command".

Get home drive of Windows type the following command in "Run command"
%HOMEDRIVE%

Open Windows folder. It will open folder where Windows is installed.
%WinDir%

Get and open Common Program Files folder.
%CommonProgramFiles%

Get and open Application data folder of current user.
%AppData%

Get and open folder which has all user profiles.
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%

Get and open home path of logged-in user.
%HomePath%

Get and open Program Files folders (Program Files folder has all installed program of Windows).
%ProgramFiles%

Open System drive. Normally it is C: but it can be different in some circumstances.
%SystemDrive%

Open System root folder.
%SystemRoot%

Open temporary files folder.
%Temp%
or
%Tmp%

Open current user's profile folder.
%UserProfile%

Open Desktop folder.
%UserProfile%Desktop

Note: These commands are not case sensitive. You can use these commands in any case like you can use %SystemRoot% or %SYSTEMROOT% or %SyStEmRoOt%. Every case will work on Windows.

If “Not Found” is selected,  when the program scans running processes and cannot find the specified process name, it will send you an E-mail message.  Press “Add” and then “Save”.

That’s all. However, if you like to test that a process scan works and sends E-mail, go to “Scan Processes Now” from the tray menu and click “OK.”

Set Automatic System Shutdown In Ubuntu

A simple command can be entered in the Terminal to schedule a time for the system to shut down.

1. Go to Applications (or Main Menu) > Accessories > Terminal.
2. Enter sudo shutdown -h +m (replace m with the number of minutes, e.g. +60).
   OR: enter sudo shutdown -h hh:mm (replace hh:mm with the time on the 24hr clock, e.g. 23:15).
3. Enter password and minimize the Terminal window.

The system will then shut down within the minutes or at the time specified. To cancel a scheduled time, enter sudo shutdown -c in the Terminal.

   Alternatively, you might want to download and install GShutdown, which is a GUI program for scheduling a time to shutdown the system.

 Note:

CompizConfig Settings Manager (ccsm), if not added yet, can be installed this way:

1. Click "Applications" (or "Main Menu"), select "Ubuntu Software Center".
2. Type ccsm into the Search box.
